Ng (黄/吴/伍)
Ng is a Hokkien (Taiwanese) and Teochew translation of the surname 黃/黄 (Mandarin Huáng) meaning "yellow"; or to 阮 (Mandarin Ruǎn). 吴 / 吳 (Wú) was the 10th most common Chinese surname in 2006 and was the 8th most common in 1990, whereas the surname 黄 (Huáng) is the 7th most common surname in China.

The Ngs were the descendends of the tribal leader BoYi . During the end of the Shang dynasty , the Ngs established the Ng empire which remained a strong nation untill the warring era. After the Ng empire was dismantled by other stronger countries, the citizens of the Ng empire took on the surname Ng in commamorate of their lost nation.

In the 19th century , there was a hype for Chinese to immigrate to SouthEast asia due to China being forced to open its doors by the western colonial nations. The Ngs came to Singapore during that hype and majority of them are from Fujian , JinAn , TongAn , NaAn , LongXi.
