Surname “Lin” (Meaning woods) comes from Bi Gan’s son. Bi Gan is a loyal advisor of Shang dynasty’s last emperor King Zhou, but King Zhou did not listen to Bi Gan’s advice. He killed Bi Gan. However, one of his wives who are pregnant at that time, escaped from Shang’s capital , hiding in the woods . Then, after King Zhou was overthrown, the mother and son changed their surname to Lin.
Currently in Singapore, most of the surname Lin is presented as “Lim”, which is “Lin” with the pronunciation of Southern Min diaspora.
